What’s New in K2?

Parents: The children are still adjusting to the rules and classroom procedures. Today was our first treasure chest day. Please ask your child to tell you rules we have at school. This would be a good way to remind them of proper behavior in the classroom.
In the Classroom: This week the children met Mr. M. He has a munchy mouth. The children practiced writing Mm and we made a list of words that begin with sound of M. Our story of the week was Julius. In the story we talked about the characters. The children also learned about nouns. We made a class list of examples of nouns. This week the popcorn words were: me and little. The children practiced writing these and we spelled them by doing arm tapping. Please continue to practice popcorn words at home. Keep them all in one bag as we continue to collect them. On the class website there is a list of words we have learned so far. This list will get updated every week. In Math we started Chapter 4. The children learned about the numbers 1, 2, and 3. The children practiced making groups of these numbers. We will continue this chapter next week and focus on the numbers 4, 5, and 0. The children will begin learning number words next week. I will be sending home copies of the words as we do them to add to the bag of popcorn words. In Religion the children were introduced to Creation. We talked about what the word meant and what God created that is in the sky. The children also practiced making the Sign of the Cross and learned their first prayer, the Glory Be. Please practice the Sign of the Cross and Glory Be at home. The children continued learning about different parts of the mass. In Social Studies we talked about rules and safety signs. The children shared rules they have at home and they learned why it is important to have rules. The children learned about safety signs that help people follow laws. In the afternoon the children participate in “extended activities”. These are activities that go with lessons we are learning in the morning. This week the children did the following activities: Monday: Read If you take Mouse to School make mouse puppet. Tuesday: Letter M card. Glue macaroni to letter m. (We will do one of these for each letter. Your child may enjoy keeping them until the end so they have the whole alphabet.) Wednesday: Parent Story Time Thursday: Mass Pages Friday: Mass Pages Important Information: This week begins our Magazine Sale, which is a big fund-raiser for the school. Your child should have brought home a packet. I encourage you to sell magazines to help support our school. The first turn-in date is next Thursday September 9th. The classroom is in need of chalk. I forgot to put this on the wish list. If you would like please send in white or colored chalk with your child. Thanks.
