Second Grade News -This week we will be working on...
In Language Arts: In phonics we will be reviewing the short sound of i and final consonant blends such as -nd, -ft, -st, etc. Our comprehension skill is finding the author's purpose for writing. In grammar we will learn about the subject part of a sentence (who or what is doing something) and the predicate part of the sentence (tells what the subject does).
The reading stories and vocabulary for this week are:
The Workers - pages64 - 69: *clean, computer, everything, many, phone, ready, sign, *use, work, *world
Tools - pages 70 - 85: *easier, *farm, *fix, pound, *tools, *write
<p> Note -The *words are words that will be tested.
In Math: We have started our flexible math groups. The students are enjoying "switching" classes. We are reviewing addition and subtraction facts and learning about fact families. We will have a math test next week.
In Science: This week we are learning how animals are classified. Students will learn about the six animal groups; mammals, insects, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. We will also learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and will make our own butterfly life cycle using pasta shells.
In Religion: Chapter 2 "We Belong to the Church" is about Baptism. We will learn about the symbols of Baptism and how we can share Christ's light with others. Students will also be making a Baptism book. Students will bring home their chapter review for homework on Wednesday. On Thursday we will highlight the tested material in our books. The religion test will be on Friday.

We have two students in our class with peanut allergies. Please make sure birthday treats brought to school are peanut-free. Thanks!
Happy Birthday to Jace Kruer who will celebrate his special day on Friday, September 10th.
First magazine turn-in day is Thursday, September 9th.
