Welcome to Room 201!
Hello Wonderful Parents of Room 201!! Please continue to remember to sign your child's agenda every night. Below is a description of what we will be learning in each of the different subject areas.
Reading In Reading class this week, we will be reading our next two stories in our book; "The Workers" and "Tools." This week we will be learning about the characters in our stories. We have been learning about the "5 Finger Test" for finding a Just Right Book. Please make sure that when your child is choosing a book at home to read, they do this test.
Language Arts In Language Arts, we will continue learning about nouns. We will also continue some "structured writing" with our reading stories. Look in our hallway for the writing activity we did about the secret to living to be 100 years old!
Spelling In Spelling, we are learning about the short i vowel sound. Each of our 13 words has a short i sound. Our spelling words are listed below in the Spelling section. I will also put our spelling words on www.spellingcity.com . This is a great website to go on throughout the week to play games with our spelling words. Look for more information below.
Math In Math, we will have our first big math test on Wednesday. This test will review addition and subtraction strategies, fact families, and word problems. We are also starting our addition timed test. Please make sure your child is practicing math facts for 5 minutes each night.
Science In Science, we will finish our unit on living things/animals. We will have a test on Thursday. We completed a study guide together in class. This guide will be sent home on Tuesday and Wednesday to use as a study aid. We will play a review game on Wednesday.
Religion In Religion, we will continue in our book with Chapter 3. This week we will talk about heroes. We will talk about the real life heroes in our lives. We will also learn about the heroes of the Church, the Saints.
Handwriting In Handwriting, we will continue in our book. Some students are writing their letters/numbers backwards. You might see some extra practice pages in their Red Folder. Please practice writing with your child and encourage them to use their BEST handwriting on every activity!!
That's what we are learning this week in Room 201! I sent home the Scholastic Book Orders on Thursday. Please take a look at them and send in your order by this Thursday, September 9. You can also visit our website (See below) and order online. Remember that for every online purchase, our classroom gets a free book! I hope you have a great week!! - Our weekly spelling words can be found in your child's spelling book. Our word list is comprised of the first 10 basic words plus the 3 challenge words on the first page of the unit. We will also have 2 Bonus words that your child can learn for extra credit. We will write these words in our books each Monday.
